“Excellence ke peeche bhago, success jhak mar ke tumhare peeche aa jayegi.”

~ Funsuk Wangdu

This quote has always been a core part of what keeps me going, and honestly, it’s a huge reason I even wrote this blog. I know, looking at the title, it might sound random, but bear with me — there’s context coming.

So, my first college internals just ended. They went decent enough, but yesterday I got my math marks back. Not bad overall, but I made one extremely silly mistake...I literally forgot to divide my final answer by 2. My evaluator cut 4 marks for that.

Anguished and full of emotions, I called up my brother. He had an exam in the next 15 minutes, but he still picked up and patiently listened to my rant:

“I can’t take this anymore! Why isn’t this pattern changing? Why does something always go wrong at the end? It’s not about the marks! it’s about the pattern! How am I supposed to let this go if it keeps repeating?”

He just laughed softly and said,

“It’s always going to be that way. Something will always be imperfect — that’s life! Tu excellence ke peeche bhaag, success jhak mar ke tere peeche aayegi. The teacher cutting your marks isn’t in your hands. You not dividing your answer by 2, that’s where you weren’t excellent. Focus there.”

And I instantly calmed down. I realized I had been blaming external factors, when in fact, doing that doesn’t help me grow. My brother’s words shifted my perspective, they made me think differently.

That’s when it hit me...we need these little reminders. They make us more human. When things start going downhill, sometimes all it takes is looking at them from a new angle or hearing a fresh point of view. It might not take you all the way uphill, but it can definitely bring you to a middle ground.

My mom always says,

A diamond has many faces, you choose the one that shines the best for you.

I’ve always understood that in the context of people, seeing the good in someone, ignoring what you don’t like, or expressing your feelings if the person is close enough. But now, I think it applies to everything wherever perspectives are involved, you get to choose which face shines for you.
